SYNOPSIS

Recruitment video: Aboard a Bell 212 helicopter

DETAIL

This video gives potential recruits of the Austrian Army an insight into flying an Agusta Bell 212 helicopter at very low altitudes.

From a location sound perspective, this project was very challenging since dealing with helicopters always equals high levels, high wind velocity and sometimes severe electromagnetic interference. Sounddesign on the other hand was very exciting - especially because of the two-bladed design of the helicopters involved. It creates a very distinct rattling sound which one might recognize from films like Apocalypse Now - the Bell 212 is a variant of the UH-1 Iroquois which was used in said film. Therefore, a lot of the original location audio was used and processed in order to get the feeling of velocity across.
